National Consumer protection week.
Are you ready?

National Credit Protection Week, NCPW, is right around the corner. It is an ideal time to talk about fraud, scams, and consumer rights, and then to take steps to protect your personal and corporate data. Per the Federal Bureau of Investigation and its annual Internet Crime Report, Business Email Compromise, EBC, caused over $2.7B in reported losses in 2024 alone. Phishing remains the dominant access vector for cyber-attacks, with losses tied to phishing -related breaches standing at $4.88M. Per IBM, the average cost of data breaches to U.S. companies was $10.22M in 2025. Lastly, employee errors lead to 90% of all data breaches.

Employers who train their employees in identifying phishing, vishing, and smishing scams dramatically cut their risk of loss caused by cyber-attacks. I am personally inviting management to join the Federal Trade Commission and its partners in conversation about how to avoid, report, and recover from fraud by hosting my employee training class on “Best Practices to Reduce the Threat of Identity Theft & Fraud.”

This class will help your employees stay vigilant in keeping their passwords safe, recognizing phishing, smishing, and vishing techniques from scammers. The training provides tools to protect the company's data and your employees’ personal data safe from cybersecurity criminals.

Individuals who have been the victim of identity theft or fraud will spend 100 – 200 hours trying to rectify a single incident of identity theft, and they must then remain ever vigilant because Social Security numbers cannot be replaced. Employees who have suffered from fraud and theft are more likely to leave their employment or have greatly diminished productivity levels.

In addition, the course will include password recommendations, how to keep financial accounts safe, personal and family safety, along with social media security tips, and information about safeguarding corporate and personal information.
